Samsung Say No Glasses Free 3DTV For At Least 10 Years

After all the excitement about watching big screen 3DTV without the specs, Samsung have crushed our dreams by revealing that glasses free 3DTV is not likely to hit the shelves for another 10 years at least!

Forget big screen glasses free 3DTV for another 10 years

The decade long problem is due to scaling the technology up to any screen bigger than twenty inches, which doesnt cut it with consumers and the fact that the 3D is only viewable from certain angles.

Samsung had upped the anticipation that a 3DTV without specs was on the cards after showing a 55 inch 3DTV prototype at a Chinese trade show. The tv had nine viewing spots where the 3D effect could be seen, but that obviously isnt enough.

In a statement Samsung said:- “Considering our current technology, Samsung can make glasses-free 3D TV at the R&D level. However, it can only be viewed from a few viewing spots. To make naturally viewed glasses-free 3D TV, for instance in a living room where several people can watch TV from various angles, the technology needs to deliver 3D to at least 32 viewing spots.”

They continue with the crushing news:- “Attempts to put glasses-free 3D TV to market within the next 10 years will be difficult.” The problem is that in 10 years time 3D may have been replaced with holographic TV instead. So Samsung, we might not want it.

  1. OF course they are not going to say it is ready they have way too much stock in GLASSES NEEDED 3d and until they can recoup the R&D for that they are not going to admit that there is a no glasses version for the consumer .. the consumer will wait till that version is ready…SO wait before you announce and get rid of as much shelf stock as there is…THE last I had heard was that the non-glasses versions that are going to be out there recommend that you do not exceed 30 minutes of direct viewing in smaller children as it can effect the eye muscle alignment… JUST what I have heard around the computer

  2. I am sooooo agree with the person above. Apparently, Samsung is the only one who says no to the glasses free 3D TV because they have to rip off the money from their customers! Their active shutter glasses are such a rip off too! I bought a active shutter 3D TV from Samsung in 2010, but then newer model came out just after few month this year with upgraded 3D glasses. So I was going to buy those expensive glasses for my TV, but I couldn’t use the newer glasses because it would not synced with my “few month old” TV!! It is same active shutter 3D TV from Samsung! Can you believe that? So does that mean I have to buy a TV every year???!!! I mean their glasses are not even cheap like passive ones.. The cheapest ones that would only work with old models still cost 50bucks and upgraded glasses are like 150bucks! Man.. so you know what I did? I just bought a passive 3D TV from LG because their glasses are universal as long as its passive 3D TV no matter how old it is or who the manufacturers are. Beside, LG has better price option but still showing a great standard and 3D pictures!!

  3. If it’s gonna take ten years I better take the plunge and get used to those godawful 3DTV Specs
