Everyone loves watching 3DTV, but the problem is a lack of content to watch. To ease customers frustrations, Samsung will give away 3DTV content including movies, documentaries and shorts for free.

Said Andy Griffiths, from Samsung:- “The demand for 3D is growing rapidly, but only a handful of channels are providing content. Samsung has led the 3D LED TV market since it launched last year, and the roll-out of our 3D video-on-demand service demonstrates our commitment to accelerating its growth.”

The move is to give customers something to watch if they are not subscribed to a pay 3DTV channel from the likes of BSkyB, or a 3D rental service such as Virgin or BT Vision. James Cameron recently advised people to wait before buying a 3DTV due to lack of content.

So what can customers watch for free? It seems that between some 3D movie trailers and documentaries/advertisments, not much really just now. Griffiths was keen to point out that Samsung are “clearly not a broadcaster,” however something to watch on your new 3D set is better than nothing.

To watch the new service, customers will need to download the Explore 3D App and have a compatible TV set. They say they will be offering around 70 3D shows for viewing this year, including full length films. They have confirmed that DreamWorks will be supplying some content.

It’s a good move, especially for buyers of Samsung’s biggest ever 3DTV, i mean, after spending $13k on a TV, you will need something to watch on it.
