Roku to get more Internet TV channels

Roku, the Digital Video Player which offers Netflix streaming already has proposed a move to get up to 10 new Internet TV on demand channels during this year according to Roku vice president Tim Twerdahl.

roku 1 Roku to get more Internet TV channelsWhen launched the Roku hardware was a Netflix only player, then it added to its portfolio Amazon Video-On-Demand. However it obviously likes having more partners and has now distributed a development kit to potential partners.

These ‘Partners’ are as yet unknown but YouTube support is apparently on the cards and Blip.tv has been touted as another Roku developer.

Of course the big one to get onboard would be Hulu given the hardware a massive boost in popularity, and even individual TV network websites. The chances are that when content providers start supplying content it will not be exclusively to Roku, but also to the other hardware manufacturers of Blu-Ray, Television sets and settop boxes as well.

If Roku can add free content providers such as Hulu, ABC, CBS, NBC and others, and do it first then it could well turn Roku into a must have piece of kit.
