Roku Internet TV Box Coming To Canada And UK
As part of an international expansion, Roku have revealed that their internet TV set-top boxes are coming to Canada and the UK in early 2012. Roku will join Netflix in launching an internet TV service in the highly competitive UK market.
Roku coming to Canada and UK
The Roku streaming media players which sell in the US for around $60, offer over 300 channels of video, music and gaming. The boxes stream Netflix, HBO and Hulu Plus amongst other online services, and will also support regional channels in the country of use says CEO Anthony Wood.
He said, “This year has been one of many accomplishments for Roku in the US and now we’re looking forward to kicking off 2012 by expanding to Europe and Canada to give consumers the best in streaming entertainment–a natural evolution for Roku.”
The news comes hot on the heels of Netflix’s European expansion plans, and increases the competition in that area as more US companies compete in this market. Roku announced earlier this year that there were over a million boxes in use and more than 15 million channel downloads.
More details on on models to be launched and pricing structure will be revealed nearer launch date.

I have 2 apple tv 2nd gen boxes. I will gladly sell them and pick up two or three Rokus . Currently watch Netflix,NHL on apple tv. I like the idea of more content than just apple and itunes . I think Apple will lose a lot of customers when this comes to Canada. I wish the CRTC would at least allow Hulu into Canada. Currently we are ripped off by the cable companies for reruns and channels we do not want.
