Report Shows Quarter Of Televisions Sold In 2010 Were Connected

Connected TV got a grip in 2010

When we looked back at last year we mentioned that internet connected tv had sold well. But it did better than that, according to a new report. It shows that a quarter of all tv’s sold in 2010 were connected television sets.

The report by Display Search shows 21% of televisions shipped around the globe in 2010 were Internet-enabled tv sets. China is currently leading the world in this area but everyone else is catching on quickly.

It is expected that the demand for connected TV Europe will double by 2014. That will bring a risk of server meltdown of course, unless the anfrastructure can be suitably updated.Currently one company in Netflix are managing to almost bring down the internet at peak times.

Consumers are looking for an ‘internet tv standard’ rather than the many different options on offer right now. Just over half of users were happy browsing the net on their tv, which means the interface is not yet at the required level.

Most users that go online on tv are accessing Netflix and Youtube. So funny videos and premium content are most in demand for couch potatos.

Google TV promised the seamless experience users want, but has been a bit of a let down. But soon enough we will have mark 2 which should correct previous complaints. Currently Apple have the most user friendly system, but surfing the web on tv needs to be as simple as pressing a button for it to be adopted fully.
