Piers Morgan Tonight Success Over Two Million Viewers
After a well-publicized debut this week, it has been revealed that CNN’s new chat show Piers Morgan Tonight has recorded over 2.1 million unique viewers, with over 500,000 in what is believed to be the network’s key demographic for the series, the 25-54 age group.
Although the 9pm ratings leader’s spot was retained by Sean Hannity on Fox News (with 2.4 million, and almost 600,000 in 25-54), featuring Sarah Palin as the star guest, Tonight was a clear second in the ratings table, with the nearest competitior, the Rachel Maddow Show from MSNBC (1.1 million and around 340,000), which had previously been in the average #2 slot before Englishman Piers took over from the retiring Larry King in Larry King Live.
The ratings for the first episode of Piers Morgan Tonight, ironically, were almost identical to the final episode of Larry King Live, which had 2.2 million viewers, although the new show has seen much better ratings than the 2010 average (674,000) for Live. The ratings for the series premire were no doubt helped by the fact that the main interview of the show was with media giant Oprah Winfrey, who gave a revealing performance.
The initial ratings are naturally good due to first-time interest, but the real question is, can CNN hang on to their viewers after the honeymoon period is over?
It seems as though the lineup of guests for the first week is a good indication of the ambition of the producers. An interview (which had been scheduled in advance) with Ricky Gervais for Thursday, will be seen as a lucky break, after potential to become a big news making event following the English comedian’s controversial hosting performance during the Golden Globe awards.Other guests scheduled for this week include George Clooney and his father Nick.
Highlights of Piers’ first major interview can be seen below:

I like Piers from some of the other projects I’ve seen him on. But I think he’s a horrible interviewer. He constantly interrupts the guest mid-sentence and they can never finish a single thought before he interrupts and go in a completely different direction. As though he’s not listen and only asking pre-determined questions.
I thought he hosted a show in England of this sort. If so, he should have much better interviewing skills than what I’ve witness.
I love Pierce! Even though he is brutally free to express himself & how he feels, I like the fact that he is brutally honest. I would love to be interviewed by him because I need my voice to be heard. I lived with a silent scream for 38 years & when I came clean with my secrets I am finally living free. The prison doors have opened my voice to give back to other survivors. I was violated by incest with my grandfather who also took what wasn’t his from my cousins & my mother. I am a pastor’s daughter who further was betrayed sexually by a youth pastor. From the age of 2-12 those experiences because of P.T.S.D. caused my world to be silent. I now know who I am & have a purpose for my life to give hope to others who are in chains.

Hello Pierce, you may not get this in time to respond to tonight’s show where you interview Demi and Ashton. If you do, I want to tell Demi I am from Roswell, NM and my little sister babysit her in 1965 when she and her mother lived on 6th st. Us girls all lived across the street from “Mama” King, her precious Grandmother. My little sister’s first name is Rose and I am Mardi (Gonyea). My little sister is still in Roswell and see’s her Aunt Billie from time to time. I adored her Aunt Caroline, whom by the way I think she got her beautiful olive skin from. I thought she was such a beauty. We were good frineds with her Aunt Charlene (we called her Chalkie) and have wondered how she was doing. One of my dear friends in school is her Aunt Kathy Guynes. We all ran around together in high school. Anyway, if she would like to email me anytime, I would love to hear from her and to catch up on our families. I, of course, knew her Mother Ginny as well…may she rest in peace. Much love and blessings, Mardi Gonyea Nicklin, Kerrville, TX
It will only be a matter of time before americans start to hate this guy as much as us brits do.

Piers Morgan is a real slime ball. You can almost feel the creepiness of the guy. He may have been a good as a newspaper man but seein his ugly mug on TV freaks me out.
