Number Of Wireless Devices To Hit Billion This Year

One of the greatest inventions that enable users to transfer, share and send data will hit the billion number of devices this year. Hardware that has Wi-Fi or WLAN (wireless local area networking) is said in a study by IHS iSuppli to grow 35% from 2010.

Wireless devices are taking over

They say that WLAN-enabled devices around the globe will hit 1.2 billion in 2011, a rise from 2010′s 880.4 billion units. And looking forward to 2015, they expect the number to hit 2.2 billion. Reason for the spurt comes from mobile phones which number 512.8 million for this year, then we have Mobile and tablet PC’s with 230.1 million expected this year.

Interestingly the growth of wireless is expected in part to come from automotive installations as in car WiFi becomes the norm. TV is also expected to become more and more connected with WLAN-enabled television sets growing around 77% between 2010-2015.

Speaking IHS Jagdish Rebello, senior director said:-”In today’s world of connected electronics, consumers expect seamless access to Internet communications, services and content in any place and at any time.”

Wireless is all well and good for connected your laptop to TV, but it seems to be coming to every device in the home. And do we really need the TV being able to talk with the Refrigerator?

  1. I have been using a simple wireless connection for the computer in my home for as long as I can remember. Just recently I have been adding to the network bit by bit features such as streaming music and television and I must say it definitely adds convenience in many ways. The increase in the number of wireless devices is no surprise to me; after all we now live in a mobile world and the advances in technology are fascinating.
