Nintendo Wii to get internet TV

The Nintendo Wii has finally caught up with the rest of the civilised world by introducing TV on Demand. It’s a move thought to be establishing the Wii in the ever growing online tv and tv on demand market
Nintendo is to partner with advertising agency Dentsu Inc and introduce a video distribution system on the Wii console, establishing a new revenue stream for Nintendo.
According to the Nikkei business daily, Wii users can check out cartoons and other entertainment video’s on their consoles. To be introduced during early 2009 Japan, followed by the rest of the world later in 2009.
Nintendo usually strive to be different to anyone else and it is thought that they are working to provide content specifically that will seperate it from other online offerings. And although specific details have yet to be announced, it is unlikely that users will be using the Wii as their main Online TV hub, and stop using other internet TV services such as Hulu etc.
It is a good move by Nintendo, who’s quirky console is outselling its competition, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
