Nielsen Shows Increase In Online Viewing Numbers For February
After a gloomy January when accorcing to Comscore online viewing figures dipped, A new report from Nielsen shows February had a 10.5% increase in unique online tv viewers compared to February 2009. The report shows that unique viewer numbers were over 141 million for February, a rise from figures of 127.6 million in February 2009. A staggering 10.3 billion videos were streamed, a rise of 15.8% from last year.
Surprisingly the biggest gainer amongst the top online video brands ranked by unique viewers in February was CNN Digital who saw a 30.6% increase in uniques from the previous month. MSN saw a 21.4% rise and AOL gained 17%.
Other top online brands, ranked by unique viewers, were YouTube (108 million, down 3.4%), Yahoo (25.5 million, down 2.2%), Facebook (22.5 million, up 4.7%), MSN (19 million, up 21.4%) and Hulu (14.1 million, down 7.4%).
When ranked by stream numbers, the top brands were YouTube (5.9 billion, off 10.7%), Hulu (647.5 million, up 1.9%), MSN (218.7 million, up 21.7%), CNN (152.4 million, up 46.2%) and Turner Sports and Entertainment (137.5 million, up 0.1%). Hulu viewers watched videos the longest, an average of 244.8 minutes, with ABC Family second at 203.3 minutes, both numbers were up from the previous month
The Nielsen figures show that online video is growing and will continue to grow, despite the blip of January’s figures.
