Netflix UK Launch PS3 App Ready For Full Launch This Week

UK streaming TV fans wait is finally coming to an end, as Netflix get ready to launch the full service in the UK this week. The company slipped out a PlayStation 3 app over the weekend in preparation for a complete rollout.

Netflix UK Imminent?

Netflix announced the Britain and Ireland launch last October and have been negotiating content deals ever since. The company dominate streaming in the US, Canada and Latin America already and have over 20 million subscribers around the world. Last week Netflix reported that viewers had watched over 2 billion hours of content in the last 3 months of 2011.

PS3 owners have noticed the familiar Netflix logo appearing amongst the other apps although the online service is not yet live. The app currently lets users register for updates. The Netflix service will cost £5.99 monthly for unlimited streaming of TV shows and movies, which is a similar price point to Lovefilm who will be their biggest rival.

So if you have a connected TV set, Blu-Ray player or other connected device, keep checking for the imminent Netflix app.

    It’s nothing like the price point of lovefilm, it’s £4 a month less for the same comparable package. The lovefilm £5.99 a month package only allows for two hours of streaming. Netflix have massively undercut LoveFilm, will be interesting to see if they lower the prices to compete.

    Actually Lovefilm Instant offers unlimited streaming also for £5.99 a month.

  4. Kevin the price is £4.99 monthly and the selection of content seems much better, but then it’s early days for Netflix.

  5. I have subscribed to the free trial and all’s well watching on my PC, however I don’t see the app on my PS3. I am on latest firmware (4.00) Searching the PS3 site for netflix also renders nothing. Do you have any ideas ?

  8. Same here, ps3 version 4.0 and no netflix to be found…
    I called the helpline and Sony’s customer service ran me through it.
    You might want to try logging out as your normal user (far left of ps3 menu) and logging back in (might have to create a new user to do that) if you have problems call 08447360595, no idea what they charge though…
