The amazing success story of Netflix continues unabbated. The company has announced that its subscriber base has blown through the 10 million barrier, in part due to the runaway success of it’s movie streaming online.

The company which is the largest online movie rental service in the world has managed to add over 600,000 new subscribers during the first part of 2009. Netflix commented:- “Since the Netflix subscription service was launched in September 1999, it has added subscribers at an average annual rate of nearly 30 percent.”

The amazing success during these recession hit times comes during Netflix’s push into additional ways of letting subscribers watch movies.

As well as receiving DVD’s by snail mail (which they have been doing since 1999), customers are now able to stream movies straight from the internet and watch on their PC or television set. They are also providing streaming movies service to Xbox Live subscribers. More than 1 million users have downloaded the Xbox 360 Netflix client.

Netflix have also tied up deals with hardware manufacturers such as Tivo and Blu-Ray manufacturers to allow streaming content on these devices. The online streams service has been a massive factor in the influx of customers, all of who have contributed to the companies massive profits.

The expectation is that by the end of the year the subscriber base will have hit the 11 million plus mark.
