When it comes to streaming services, Netflix are still head and shoulders above the competition thanks to the movie content available says a new report.
Netflix are not kings of TV programming though, Hulu which was set-up to show US based catch-up TV is number one. According to Piper Jaffray, Hulu has had available for streaming almost half (44%) of the top 75 TV shows during the last 4 years, against 33% for Netflix and just 7% for Amazon. When looking at new TV content though, Netflix have grabbed 27% against Amazon’s 9%.
When it comes to movies, Netflix have the clear lead. Out of the top 50 movies released in the last 3 years, Netflix take the lead with 14% available, against Amazon with 11% and Hulu had a big fat zero!
The future does not look good for Netflix rivals either, according to Piper Jaffray analysts they will reinforce their position using original content. The report said, “We expect Netflix will increase its focus on original programming and may, therefore, choose not to license certain non-exclusive content in the future.”
