Netflix Get The Cream Of The BBC Crop For UK Streaming

Netflix are securing more top quality content ahead of the planned UK launch in early 2012. The latest content grab comes from the mighty BBC, and means that top shows such as Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers and Top Gear are coming to the streaming service.

BBC content coming to Netflix in UK

The deal made with the BBC Worldwide gives Netflix non exclusive UK and Ireland streaming rights for episodes that are 6 months past airing date.

Many BBC classics will be available including Torchwood, Spooks and Little Britain. No financial details of the deal are yet known but BBC streaming will be on Netflix the day it launches say the company.

Netflix is the top DVD and streaming company in the world and they are currently launching around the globe. Unfortunately the rest of the world get the pay for version and do not get any DVD by mail options.

Current cost for US subscribers is $7.99 monthly for complete seasons of TV shows and a selection of older movies.

Subscribers will be able to watch Netflix streaming on any number of connected devices from game consoles such as Wii and Xbox 360, set-top boxes and connected TV sets, oh…and not forgetting the computer as well.

Netflix have been busily securing content deals with providers such as Miramax, MGM and ITV amongst others. In the UK, Netflix will be competing with Amazon owned LoveFilm, who do offer DVD rental by mail as well.

Being able to watch BBC content is already free for UK viewers using iPlayer, but that is limited to the last 7 days only. Netflix could become very popular if they can stream entire seasons of hit UK shows.
