Netflix Coming To Android Devices Running On Snapdragon

Netflix already seem to have a head start over everyone else in the pay to view on-demand market, but the missing piece has always been no Android support. But now that seems to have been solved, kind of. For new phones running on Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, android mobile devices will have Netflix capabilities built in.

Netflix coming to Android

Qualcomm have introduced the new generation of mobile chips including the quad-core Snapdragon chipset, which has been created for the next generation models. The news wa released in a press release by the company.

The news is good for Netflix as future Android devices will have native support for Netflix streaming services. And even better, it is designed to be less battery draining too, as the hardware will handle video decoding rather than the software.

So why no Netflix for Android right now? After all, iPhone and iPad users get the service. The answer is copy protection. Where as Apple have the DRM side of things working, Android is seen as a much less secure device.

So the news is only good if your planning an upgrade, as Netflix will not be working with the current crop of devices. No release dates have yet been issued.
