Netflix Watch Instantly Arrives On Compatible Android Phones
Streaming movie company Netflix have finally launched their service for Android phones. But it’s a bit of a lottery as it is only running on selected models that are compatible and have been tested.

The service is available for Four HTC phones and two from Samsung at present. The phones get access to the Watch Instantly service. Netflix revealed the news in a blog post. Thee company say that other makes will get the service after testing of handsets to determine if they are capable of playback support.
They say, “The Market download will initially be available only on select phones that currently have the requisite playback support.” Not sure what that means, but previously it was reported that Netflix will only run on the latest snapdragon processors.
The lucky phones able to run the Netflix app are:-
HTC Incredible (Android 2.2), HTC Nexus One (Android 2.2, 2.3), HTC Evo 4G (Android 2.2) HTC G2 (Android 2.2), Samsung Nexus S (Android 2.3), Samsung Nexus S 4G (Android 2.3).
The strange thing is that the phones do not seem to share a common theme. four HTC devices with older Snapdragon processors. The Samsung phones run on Hummingbird processors. It seems that a lot more Android phones will be added to the list, but it will be a laborious task.
It seems that the number of Android devices is causing the issue, due to a lack of “standard streaming-playback features that the Netflix application can use to gain broad penetration across all available Android phones,” said Netflix. The post continued, “In the absence of standardization, we have to test each individual handset and launch only on those that can support playback.”
The Netflix app is available free from the Android Market.
