Netflix App On iPad Gets Streamlined

Netflix have given the iPad app an update that further distances themselves from physical content delivery. The Netflix iPad app now has a slicker streamlined interface, much like iPhone. But it now does not have the option to add a movie to the physical DVD queue.

Netflix iPad app gets a makeover

The move will be welcomed by most iPad users as the previous app was just a website port of the Netflix store. Now it runs faster and looks more like it was designed with iPad users in mind.

The removal of DVD queue management is part of the Netflix move away from physical dvd’s and into digital streaming. There are now just 4 menu options Home, Genres, Search and Instant Queue. The only downside is the removal of things users may have wanted such as reviews, cast lists, and more detailed summaries.

Maybe Netflix have gone a little overboard and over simplified the app. After all the DVD is still with us and there are thousands of titles still not available to stream, so whats a customer supposed to do when they find a title they want that only exists on dvd?

One Response to “Netflix App On iPad Gets Streamlined”

  1. I welcome the change but it would have been GREAT to have a blurb about the update and that it got rid of the dvd queue.
I had to search around a bit to find out as there is no “preamble” when you just do the regular “update” on the iPad or iPhone.

The reason I like the new update, my 2 year old son. Now I can let him watch netflix and not have him poke around and kill my dvd queue and change my plan.

I REALLY wish they would come up with USERS within an account, so I could limit what titles and types of movies a USER could see.
So my son on the iPad, when logged in as a user CHILD (or whatever user name I choose) I set up limits based on MPAA ratings or Netflix “ratings” or groupings. If they then added in “time windows” were you could not allow the use of an account say, during school hours, or by device type. Also if they had more detailed reporting of account use, to the minute viewing, and then extend it to the new “user” level I was talking about, that would really be great.
It would be a great help to parents to help monitor and limit netflix use once you set up all those settings.
