Netflix’s partnership recruitment drive for their British Isles expansion next year will naturally be ongoing near to their launch day, but the American movie rental and Internet streaming giant will be delighted at the fact that they have added another name to their list, with American movie studio Miramax joining the small but growing list of content partners for ‘Netflix UK’.

Miramax already allow their movies to be hosted (as a ‘digital licencer’) on Netflix’s ‘North America’ and ‘Latin America’ services, with the latest agreement thought to be the latest installment to their partnership, though neither party are revealing how much the deal is worth in financial terms.

The ‘multi-year’ arrangement is expected to cover Miramax’s archive of movies (or at least its more popular ones) since the studio’s formation in 1979, along with potential new releases (appropriate to its home release time-frame) over the next few years. Films that users will most likely see avaliable from Miramax include The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and the Scary Movie franchise.

Netflix now have a number of content suppliers confirmed or close, with movie studios MGM, Lionsgate, and Miramax having signed deals, while numerous other studios, as well as local TV networks such as ITV and Channel Four, are in the negotiation stages.

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos gave his verdict on the deal: “Netflix is proud to be able to offer the unmatched mix of award-winning, independent and commercially successful films Miramax is known for. Miramax films are already favorites of Netflix members in the U.S. and Latin America and we’re sure they’ll be incredibly popular in the UK and Ireland as well.”

Miramax’s CEO Mike Lang added: “We are thrilled to grow our partnership with Netflix as they expand their platform into the UK and Ireland. This agreement further extends our broader international digital distribution strategy, as we continue to offer consumers around the world our extraordinary collection of Miramax films.”
