Three Quarters Of Net Users Now Comfortable Paying For Online Content
In a shift from the everything is free on the net, a new study shows that 65% on internet surfers have paid for online movies, tv shows and other content. The survey conducted by Pew Research Center shows that making revenue online is the way forward for media companies.
The study showed that users also pay for music, games and even to read the news as well. In order of content that was paid for music came out top with 33%. Next came apps for mobile devices from Apple and Android predominately at 21%, games came in at 19%, 18% for newspaper downloads. When it came to video both movies and tv shows was 16% of internet users.
The figures for online tv content may seem a little low but this is an emerging market, people have to get used to paying for a non physical product and it goes against the instinct to pay money and not get to hold something.
With the emergence of streaming technology, mobile devices and users acceptance of mobile top-ups and iTunes vouchers, the online movie and tv on demand market will soon bring in as much or more than digital music downloads.
