NBC Take On 4 New Shows

NBC have been busy bringing in some new series for their line-up, after picking up four pilot orders.

This list is highlighted by REM, a drama from Lone Star creator Kyle Killen with 20th TV, with a plot-line involving a cop who recovers from an accident to discover that is inside two different realities, said to be inspired by the 2010 hit film Inception. New NBC chief Bob Greenblatt is said to be currently favouring new spec scripts over in-house productions, and the list of new pilots reflects this attitude.

REM will be joined by three new comedies, the first of which is UMS and John Enbom project, Free Agents, an adaptation of a 2009 series in the UK on (Channel 4) as a single-camera romcom about two co-workers both on the rebound falling for each other, although the additional factor of both people working as talent agents is being changed to ‘PR executives’. The staff on this project will combine key members from the original series, as well as a host of established American executive talent.

LoveLives, is another 20th TV production (alongside Chernin Entertainment, and written by Family Guy EP Chris Sheridan), and another new romcom, this time based on the controversial subject of a couple both thinking about cheating on their partner, and encouraged to do so by their respective friends and family.

The final new show is to be an untitled project from Dan Goor, in association with UMS and BermanBraun, and is planned to be a multi-camera comedy revolving around an aspiring young doctor who works in the same area as his parents, and must divide his work time between tending to patients, and tending to his disruptive family.

Whatever happens with these new spec scripts, there seems to be a lot of confidence at NBC at the moment that they are getting in the right kind of promising new series for their network.
