NASA Firing Rocket into the Moon will be Broadcast Online

History will be created this Friday when NASA fire a rocket crash onto the surface of the moon to study more about water. The explosion is expected to help NASA to find more details about the availability of water on Moon.

For those of you doing more important stuff like watching celebrity come dance with me or x factor, you may have missed the fact that NASA will on Friday morning fire a rocket into the moons surface in the name of science.

NASA will show images of the explosion in a show broadcasting on NASA TV and online. A rocket will be fired into a crater on the moons surface at the south pole, selected because it is in a permanent shade and is more likely to contain water ice.

The four month mission which will be directed from NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, is to discover whether water is frozen in the perpetual darkness of craters near the moon’s south pole. As a potential source of oxygen for life support and hydrogen for rocket fuel, that water would be a tremendous boost to NASA’s plans to restart human exploration of the moon.

The size of the plume of dust and ice (hopefully) ejected from the crater’s surface depends on a number of variables, but NASA is predicting it will be 25 miles wide and over 6 miles in height.

The collision will be filmed using cameras aboard the Lunar Crater Observing and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS), which will follow its spent second-stage rocket to the lunar surface, taking readings from the plume of debris as it passes through and transmitting data to Earth before it crashes itself into the crater several minutes later.

Dont forget to play ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ whilst watching.

  1. I know this sounds crazy but a few months back I was in hackers lounge:1 on yahoo and told everyone about the text message that i had received that was broadcasted directly into my brain, the text message said they were planning on detonating a nuclear device on the moons surface and that it would cause the destruction of mankind and planet earth and if i didn’t tell them to stop in hackers’ lounge:1 on yahoo that they were going to do it, now i see that the text message I received was true and even telling them about it was not enough to stop the destruction of the entire planet.
