Mr T Back On TV With Crazy Fools
Famed tough guy and actor Mr. T is to make his first original TV appearence in over 4 years tonight, as he hosts new Roughcut-produced ‘comedy-entertainment clipshow’ World’s Craziest Fools for UK channel BBC3.
Mr. T, famed for being a ‘celebrity bodyguard’ before notable 1980′s acting roles as BA Baracus (A-Team) and Clubber Lang (Rocky III) and his no-nonsense catchphrases such as ‘I pity the fool’, will present the show as well as provide voiceovers to a series of unusual stories and video clips of people making stupid mistakes. It will be the first time he has appeared on a TV show since 2006, when he fronted Real TV’s self-help reality show I Pity The Fool.
The show, which will incorporate original animation to the longer stories that do not have a video provided, is due to take on a 10-episode run, airing weekly on Monday nights at 10:30pm.
Videos will be sourced from an archive of home videos, classic TV moments, and CCTV footage, much of which will have featured on TV before on similar shows, just not with Mr T calling the action. While the show might be quickly dismissed by some as similar to other popular clip shows in the UK such as You’ve Been Framed (ITV) or Oops TV (Sky), the BBC will hope that their latest offering will have more of an appeal to young adults (the target market of BBC3) due to the mixed format and post-watershed airtime.
BBC entertainment commissioner Karl Warner had ordered the first series of the 30-minute show, which he will executive produce along with Roughcut’s Ash Atalla.
Atalla said of the show, and his company’s development: “As Roughcut continues to grow, we have been focusing our development into entertainment, alongside our scripted. We are pleased to be working with the legend Mr T. We’ll be filming the show in LA because, as anyone who has seen The A-Team will remember, he doesn’t like flying.”
Warner added: “We think World’s Craziest Fools will be lots of fun and we’re very excited about working with someone as well known and well loved as Mr T.”
Clips and stories featured on the series are said to include a businessman walking into a glass door with a cup of coffee, a cruise ship crashing into a bridge, a woman calling the police to report her own drunk driving, and a Jordanian couple who cheated on each other, with each other after both anonymously using an online matchmaking service. That line-up alone sounds stupid and entertaining enough, but who will Mr T find right to recieve the honourary title of ‘craziest fool’?
