For most people, the word ‘milking’ will usually bring up images of a common farmyard procedure with cows, though a group of university students in Newcastle (England) seem intent on offering a different meaning, attempting to create a new internet meme that looks to be even more ridiculous than ‘planking‘.
The group, who go under the YouTube username of MilkingNewcastle, appear to have replaced the cast of Geordie Shore as the collection of people with the worst camera/brain cells ratio in the city, with their week-old clip of the newest ‘ing’ featuring the stars heading to various busy locations to empty a bottle of milk over their heads.
The 3-minute clip has cannot be considered even close to a ‘viral video’ just yet though, with a current count of 44,000 views since being uploaded 5 days ago (last Wednesday), and on current form milking looks set to expire with other efforts such as ‘fall-ing’.
However, it is still considered by those involved to be performing much better than they could have expected, while MilkingNewcastle have received support from students in Cirencester, Nottingham (both England) and Edinburgh (Scotland) who have announced plans to create milking videos of their own.
One ‘cast member’ of the video was 22-year-old Tom Morris,who said of the inspiration behind their clip: “We were just in our kitchen talking about doing it outside Starbucks and thought it would be really funny. We did that, uploaded the video to Facebook and got a load of likes. So then we thought ‘why not just make a video?'”
Fellow ‘milker’ George Hoyland added: “We didn’t expect a reaction this large, the video was initially intended for our friends.”
The video has managed to generate its share of ‘punny’ comments if nothing else, as user SamSmurfet noted in the pick of the bunch: “Holy cow man! Dairy good video. Just semi-skimming youtube when I found this.”
