Manti Why Why Given Auto-Tune Treatment With Katie Couric

The story surrounding the ‘fake girlfriend’ of american football player Manti Te’o will probably have not have much more added to it in the future with the nature of the stor naturally running its course, though the fall-out from his interview with Katie Couric on ABC last Thursday will continue for a while yet, including a musical rendition of what was said.

manti_te'o_katie_couric_interviewAppearing on chat show Katie, the linebacker for college team Notre Dame Fighting Irish (and likely future NFL player) claimed that he only discovered that he had been hoaxed at the same time that ‘everyone else’ had found out, recounting his at-the-time tragic story and at how confused he was for it to have all been a ‘catfishing’ incident.

He added that he had only lied to his father Brian throughout the whole ‘relationship’, claiming to him that he had met ‘Lennay Kekuka’ in order to gain his parent’s approval. It was also confirmed that ‘Lennay’ was the creation of a male hoaxer Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, who recently called Te’o to apologise for the lengthy incident, with the Heisman Trophy candidate remarking in a separate interview: “It sounded like a woman, but if [a man] somehow made that voice,… that’s incredible talent to do that, especially every single day.”

However, all those depressing tales to listen to a lot more humorous when put through an auto-tuner, as YouTube user schmoyoho (creator of the hit ‘Charlie Sheen songify’ song “Winning”) created a ‘remix’ to the interview entitled “Why, Why, Manti?”.

That video’s description reads: “Katie Couric plays hardball with Manti Te’o, trying to uncover the truth behind his fake girlfriend & why he’d ever avoid letting the world hear his amazingly smoooooth Samoan baritone.”

Uploaded just 2 days after the actual interview, the 3-minute clip was put online on Saturday (26 January) and has so far seen positive feedback from viewers. While only 80,000 have seen it so far (at the time of writing), will “Why, Why, Manti” turn viral and offer Katie, Manti, and his rapping father an alternative career move should they all need it? Your chance to help those numbers along a little further is below, along with a more ‘real’ version of the ABC interview and another opportunity to see “Winning”, even if its star seems to be more stable nowadays
