Majority of young people now get news from the net

ObamaWhen it comes to checking out the latest news, the internet is fast becoming our number one destination. A survey has revealed that the internet is second only to traditional TV as the main source for catching up with the latest news.

A new survey from says the internet, which emerged this year as a leading source for campaign news, has now surpassed all other media except television as a main source for national and international news.

The research carried out by Pew Research centre shows that 40 percent of those questioned stated that they check out the national and international news by using the net. This is an increase, up from 24 percent in September 2007. Newspapers only got a 35 percent share, although the good old TV still comes out top at 70 percent of users.

When it come’s to the younger generation however, the internet comes out top. Around six out of ten Americans under the age of 30 say they get access to the news from the internet. This represents a drop from 68 percent in September 2007 to 59 percent now.

The research showed little change in the networks that people use to watch national and international news. 23 percent use CNN, whilst 17 percent go for Fox News.
