Lost Having A Marathon Viewing Session
Fans of the hit US TV show Lost have an opportunity to watch the entire running of the show, from start-to-finish in a special marathon screening a week on Monday, although they will have to take at least half a week from their working/leisure schedule to manage the feat.
Lost producers have praised the efforts of the devoted UK viewers who are planning to attend a four-day marathon, watching each of the series’ 121 episodes back-to-back, but at the same time insisted that they will take no responsibility for the participant’s health and well-being in this act of crazed fandom.
Devoted followers of the smash-hit cult TV series – co-created by JJ Abrams and starring actors such as Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway and Evangeline Lilly – are being given an open invitation to the first ever public Lost marathon, held at the Prince Charles Cinema in London’s Leicester Square from Monday September 13 to Thursday September 16.
The show features the lives of a group of people who survived the crash of a commercial plane flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, on a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific. More details from Wikipedia.
Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who were Executive Producers on the show, stated: “For those of you watching all six seasons of the show in one long marathon, we applaud you, we admire you and we thank you for your fandom. But we take no legal responsibility for you!”
Only the first 280 fans through the doors of the cinema will be eligible to take part in the marathon, watching over 80 hours of the gripping drama, to celebrate the release of ‘Lost - The Final Season’ on Blu-ray and DVD. Fans are encouraged to take part dressed as their favourite characters from the show, and as a safety measure, also armed with their very own ‘survival packs’ including sleeping bags, pillows and packed lunches. A Lost goody bag full of merchandise will be awarded to each participant who attends the event, which begins at 10am on Monday September 13.
Gregory Lynn, director of The Prince Charles Cinema said: “We’re thrilled to host such an exciting event and look forward to keeping our cinema running all day and all night for as long as it takes!”
As an added safety measure, Paramedics will be on standby and regulated breaks will be arranged at intervals as fans attempt to complete the unprecedented mass participation event, and with over 5000 minutes (or over 84 hours) of total viewing action, they are probably going to need it, with many possibly taking days off work to accommodate the marathon.
It is not the first time that a marathon such as this has been attempted, as fans of shows all over the world will try and watch their favourites as part of a record attempt or just for fun, but it has rarely been attempted as a public event. Could a successful screening of Lost pave the way for other public marathons?
