Logitech Stop Production Of Google TV Revue Boxes
Google TV seemed such a great idea at the launch, but for Logitech it has turned into a digital nightmare. So much so, that the electronics company have called Google TV a, “big mistake” and will not produce any more Revue set-top boxes.
The comment was made by Guerrino De Luca, the Chief Executive of Logitech. The failure of the TV platform has lost the company over $100 million in profits. De Luca speaking to The Verge, said that Google TV was, “a mistake of implementation of a gigantic nature”. He also said that the Revue would sell existing stocks by christmas bringing, “closure” to the “saga,”
The Logitech Revue has been selling at a loss since they slashed the price from $300 to $99 back in July. The only good news for Revue owners is that they can use the updated Google TV 2.0 released last month.
To twist the knife even more he said that Google TV will not succeed in it’s current form, although future versions may, he said that the “grandchild of Google TV” may be a succeed but not the existing one.
This means that currently only Sony are making Google TV powered hardware, although a rumor says that LG will be showing a Google TV television at the CES show in January 2012.
But Google still have the ongoing content problem with the four major television broadcast networks who are still blocking all TV streaming.
