Live DirecTV Satellite Live Streaming Comes To iPad

The DirecTV iPad app has gone the way of other apps and included a live TV streaming option in the latest update. That gives users a not insubstantial 38 channels of live streaming gold on a tablet, you just cannot leave the house.

The home only streaming access was expected and has been enforced by other TV streaming apps such as Time Warner. other apps also enforce this on mobile devices.

But being confined to the house will not upset too many DirecTV customers, who have been hoping for the addition since it was launched.

The latest DirecTV v1.3.1 update gives users Live TV choice from 38 channels that include Discovery, Fox News, CNN, NFL Network, Food Network, TNT, TBS and SyFy. ESPN are not included, but they do have their own iPad app anyway. You can only watch channels that you currently subscribe to, of course.

A full list of the live TV channels available can be found here and the DirecTV app can be downloaded now from the iPad app store for free.

  1. It’s awesome that DirecTV’s iPad app can now stream live TV! That should make it even more popular with customers who have an iPad. I use a similar app from my employer DISH Network called the DISH Remote Access app. Like the DirecTV app, it can stream live TV to my iPad. Unlike their app, I can actually take my iPad anywhere I want! On another note, I can stream any channel that I subscribe to, and I can even stream the recordings on my DVR. Speaking of subscribed channels, I know that some of the available channels that are on their app are up for removal. I know last year DISH and FOX were in a similar battle, but thankfully, they were able to work out an agreement so we don’t have to worry about them being taken down. I like the idea of the app, but it still seems a bit limited. As for the channels, hopefully everything works out for DirecTV customers. They have a limited enough selection on the iPad as it is, and don’t need more taken down.
