Kindle Fire Ready To Ignite As Version 2 Is Planned

Amazon’s much-anticipated tablet computer Kindle Fire was officially released today, although the company already seem to be planning a potential second edition of a product which they have invested heavily in over the last few months, and has proved popular in terms of pre-order numbers.

For some of those customers, the device has come to them sooner than expected, with the company behind the development of the Kindle Fire not too worried over shipping the products a day ahead of schedule.

Amazon Kindle product vice-president Dave Limp said of the early release: “We’re thrilled to be able to ship Kindle Fire to our customers earlier than we expected. Kindle Fire quickly became the bestselling item across all of Amazon.com, and based on customer response we’re building millions more than we’d planned. Customers are excited about Kindle Fire because it is a premium product at the non-premium price of only $199.”

The growth of Amazon Kindle Fire since it was announced has proven to be popular with potential customers thanks mainly to the product’s unique direct links to other Amazon services, a feature that stands out amongst the usual tablet computer options such as ‘apps’. The developers of such apps, however, are seeing the potential of the Kindle Fire as a platform for their downloads, and are thought to be flocking to the new device to try and have their creations hosted by Amazon.

One such app developer is Appcelerator, and their marketing vice-president Scott Schwarzhoff claimed that amongst Android-powered tablets, the Kindle Fire is second only to the Samsung Galaxy Tab in terms of developer interest, while it is not too far behind popularity figures recorded for iPad before its groundbreaking release. Schwarzhoff said of the app hosting prospects of Amazon’s device: “When we saw that so many Android tablet devices were being announced last year at CES, we said price would be a key factor for people to get an Android tablet. And price and availability of apps are big for the Kindle Fire.”

Meanwhile, several sources (such as Quanta Computer and Nishoku) claim to be in contact with Amazon over development of a ‘Kindle Fire 2′, and while Amazon have not confirmed this potential product, it is believed that the redesigned version (with the current device thought to be made too similar to the BlackBerry PlayBook) could be released as soon as spring 2012. With business booming on its first day of release, and possible plans made for the future, could the Kindle Fire become a genuine challenger to the iPad?
