Kiefer Sutherland Stars In New Web Series The Confession

Kiefer Sutherland who plays Jack Bouer in the hit tv series “24″ has landed a role in a web series called “The Confession” showing on Hulu this March. “The Confession” will have 10 5-7 mins webisodes and will feature Kiefer Sutherland as a hitman that has a theological discussion with a priest (played by John Hurt) about why his victims deserved to die. The series, that was written and directed by Brad Mirman, and ends having a meaty twist.

“It came about in such a different way,” Sutherland says. ”I was meeting a couple friends of mine, who wanted to introduce me to Chris Young of Digital Broadcasting Group. I know so little about the internet, but that’s what a lot of friends do for work. Most of that stuff being produced for the internet is comedy, very much like Jackass kind of material, which is great but didn’t appeal to me.”

“Chris started talking about wanting to do a drama, but his criteria was so different. A drama in five-minute episodes! It was one of those things, like a puzzle over the course of the lunch. It can’t be that complicated to figure out a story in five minutes, right? I couldn’t, and it frustrated the crap out of me. So I went home that night, still thinking about it, and it stayed with me for three days. I was falling asleep when I literally got this idea of a confessional.”

An Emmy Award winner for his work as an actor and producer from the Fox series “24″ Sutherland is likely to make his Broadway debut later this year in a revival from the Championship Season. John Hurt is a British actor and has starred in movies The Elephant Man and Alien.

“This experience that is The Confession has taken everything I have learned over the last 25 years from storytelling to acting and challenged it in a way like no other experience that I’ve had,” Sutherland said in a statement. ”From five to seven minute episodes, to creating a character that I believe is edgy enough to stand out and make an impression in the vast Internet. In short, I’m having a blast.”

Kiefers last major role was playing a govt agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s critically-praised “24″ series. The new series is his first web tv project, although im not sure that a web only series is a step up for such a superstar.

  1. You’re not sure whether a web-only series is a “step up” for Sutherland? Maybe he enjoyed the challenge of doing it? Does every project have to be a “step up” in some absolute metaphysical sense from whatever one has done last?
