Producers of MTV’s ‘reality’ show Jersey Shore are reported to have agreed a deal which sees the eight cast members each get paid a whopping $100,000 per episode for the upcoming season four of the popular series. It has been reported that this will be a wage based on MTV’s ‘bonus structure’, meaning that the ‘core cast’ (the best-known members of the show) could take home an average weekly total over the six-figure milestone.

The fourth season of Jersey Shore is being filmed in Italy (under the premise of the cast ‘going back to their roots’) within the next month, with the stars staying in a villa ready to create ‘controversy’ and parties for the entertainment of the show’s millions of fans, who will watch the action unfold on MTV in the second half of the year.

The cast are said to be ‘thrilled’ with their collective pay rise, which is up ten-fold from ’only’ $10,000 per episode in the second season in Miami. Figures for the inagural series was valued at $5,000 each, while season three saw each member claim $30,000, signalling a monumental rise as the show progresses into its next installment.

The reported figures are said to not include the celebrities’ fees that they demand for personal projects and appearances, with ‘Snooki’s WWE wrestling stint earning her a large undisclosed sum, while leading male Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino is reported to be raking in $5m each year.

For three of the cast, a further association with MTV is lined up in the form of spin-off shows, as guidettes ’Snooki’ and ‘J-Woww’ plan to film a ‘buddy comedy’ with just the two of them as housemates, while guido ‘Pauly D’ is letting cameras film his efforts to become a professional DJ, with the remainder of the cast also in talks for their own spin-off.

The cast are certainly living many people’s dreams, getting hundreds of thousands dollars to take an all-expense paid holiday to Italy, and in return being filmed partying hard. As long as they keep entertaining their audience, though, the Jersey Shore juggernaut will continue to be on TV screens. With a UK version (Geordie Shore) in the pipeline for MTV, will it be able to reach the level of popularity of its Italian-American cousin?
