Jason Isaacs To Star In REM For NBC
NBC’s Inception-inspired pilot series REM is starting to get off the ground now, with Jason Isaacs, an English actor known for his role of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movie series, taking the lead role in the dream-based project, which was first announced at the start of the month.
Isaacs is said to have rejected over 6 other offers in favour of the lead role in Kyle Killen’s REM project, where he will also serve as a producer. His character is that of a police officer, who awakes from a work-related accident to discover that he is alive in two different realities. Other executive producers for the pilot are former 24 showrunner Howard Gordon, and 20th TV’s Tim Minear.
It will be a return to 20th TV for Isaacs, where he also starred in another drama pilot, Pleading Guilty for Fox. He might also be using the appointment to help develop and promote his own drama project at 20th TV, entitled Safe, in association with Chris Gerolmo.
Former Brotherhoodstar Isaacs has been in demand from the major networks to star in scripted series ever since that show ended in 2008. While he was unavailable for the 2009 pilot season, he recieved no less than 8 offers for 2010, and chose failed pilot Pleading Guilty. On the movie front, Jason Isaacs will this year be appearing in the eighth and final installment of the Harry Potter series, and also has a role in the Taylor Lautner-lead feature Abduction. If REM gets off the ground and goes to air it looks as though he will be having quite a busy year ahead in 2011…
