ITV Take On Sing If You Can
Since the recent season finales of Take Me Out and Ant & Dec’s Push The Button, UK commercial network, ITV1 have found a new show to fill one of the current void on their Saturday night prime-time entertainment line-up, with a new celebrity gameshow, Sing If You Can. The six-episode series is set to get one of the best possible slots to premiere in, on 16 April as the lead-in show to the new series of popular talent contest Britain’s Got Talent.
The show, which has reportedly been bought from an international format by Zodiak Entertainment (formerly RDF Television), will see two teams of celebrities compete each week in singing modern and classic pop songs, all whilst facing distractions designed to be off-putting to their chances, such as balance beams, being boxed in with insects, and chest waxing in mid-song. Some of the ‘stars’ said to be participating in the series include Sinnita, Ray Quinn, Chesney Hawks, Darren Gough, and pop duo Jedward, amongst a lengthy list.
The show is being fronted by Stacey Solomon (winner of the most recent series of reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, and finalist on singing competition The X Factor the year before), who is making her full-time presenting debut alongside comedian Keith Lemon (real name Leigh Francis, host of ITV2′s Celebrity Juice) (Keith Lemon was a late replacement for Vernon Kay, after pilot tests decided the ‘more madcap’ show needed a comedian as a presenter), while each episode will also see a new 3-person celebrity judging panel to help decide the winning team, whose prize money goes to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.
Stacey said of her new job: “I am really looking forward to what is going to be a really fun new series and the fact that the show is going to be such a big benefit to the Teenage Cancer Trust is brilliant. I realise I’ve lot to learn as I’ve never presented a TV show before but I can’t wait to get started.”
ITV controller of entertainment John Kaye Cooper, gave his opinion on the new show in general: “It’s packed with great music, edge of seat jeopardy and downright silliness. We are thrilled to have our presenters and a huge cast of celebrities in this exciting and laugh-out-loud new series.”
Sing If You Can is an international format which has featured in Spain, Indonesia, Romania, and France, amongst others, with the video below demonstrating what the series is like around the world, with a focus on the Polish version:
