ITV Give Red Or Black September Start Date
ITV have confirmed speculation over the launch date of their new Simon Cowell-produced gameshow Red or Black?, with the series premiere airing on Saturday 3rd September.
The show, which is to be hosted by presenters Ant & Dec at Wembley Arena, is to broadcast throughout the following week, with each of the 7 episodes ending with 1 of the 7000 original contestants playing a live game of roulette to try and win £1m.
The episodes will each air the progression of the finalists to the live shows through a series of celebrity-filled challenges, with each task designed to make contestants choose between the 50-50 gambling decision of ‘Red or Black’.
In a busy time for host channel ITV1 (including the launch of a new chat show and the broadcasting of the 2011 Rugby World Cup from New Zealand), the scheduling is not the same every day, with minor changes in the evening schedule of the week to allow regular and pre-scheduled programming.
The Saturday premiere will be in a good position to claim good ratings, as the episode (and later results show) is sandwiched by an episode of The X Factor. Tuesday will be the only time viewers need to go without their week-log fix, though, as a live football match (England v Wales in the UEFA Euro 2012 Qualifiers) takes place instead.
With many potential ratings-winners airing at the start of the month for ITV, will they, and Simon Cowell’s Syco Production be able to turn a profit from a series which has been given a record £15m budget by the two production companies, and a project which Cowell himself calls one of his ‘biggest risks’? It seems to be a gamble on both sides of the camera…
The provisional schedule for the series pans out like this (all dates in September on ITV1, with main show 1 hour long followed by a later 30 minute results show): Saturday 3: 7pm & 9pm, Sunday 4: 7pm & 8:30pm, Monday 5: 8pm & 9:30pm, Wednesday 7: 8pm & 9:30pm, Thursday 8: 8pm & 9:30pm, Friday 9: 8pm & 9:30pm, Saturday 10: 7pm & 9pm
