Is Hulu coming to the UK?
The biggest and most successful streaming TV and movie website, Hulu is allegedly in talks with UK TV networks about creating a UK version of its streaming website.
After the abortive Project Kangaroo there has been heightened speculation of a UK Hulu launch. Peter Smith, NBC Universal president has commented that the NBC/News Corp venture is “talking with all the partners you would expect”. Smith said the aim was “local partners with local content – put that rich cocktail of local and US content together”.
Reports had been rife that Hulu had talks about a tie in to the Kangaroo project and Hulu makes it plain that it is looking to expand internationally as well as the UK. They had been waiting for the outcome of the Competition Commission’s Kangaroo inquiry. Now that it is dead the way is clear for Hulu to move in.
Hulu, currently only ‘officially’ available in North America has spoken in the past abouthas said in the past that they were keen on rolling out international access, and the only thing holding them back was the rights holders, but given a chance they’d press the button tomorrow.
