IPTV popularity to explode by 2014
Popularity of IPTV is expected to explode with an expecteded 32% subscriber increase by the year 2014 according to new research.
The report compiled by ABI Research shows that whilst existing cable and satellite companies will remain steady, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) will expand and is expected to have close to 79 million subscribers by the year 2014.
ABI Research spokesman Serene Fong said:- “(IPTV) usage will initially be concentrated in countries with established high-speed Internet technologies, such as France, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Hong Kong. But as technology progresses and matures, developing countries such as China will rapidly catch up in subscription numbers.”
Microsoft has already announced that a Chinese TV provider, Guangzhou Digital Media is using the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV software. This is the first IPTV deal it has secured in this country to provide IPTV across a cable network.
IPTV services are supplied across the globe by phone companies such as AT&T and Verizon Using this service gives the user a more interactive experience. Users can for example select TV and movies-on-demand
They will be competing with internet enabled TV and hardware as well as internet tv providers all racing to give viewers the ultimate TV experience.
