iPlayer Has Record 1.4 Million Visitors Per Day In February

The BBC Iplayer continues to grow and grow, figures for February released by the BBC show just how popular the iPlayer platform is. The catch up tv and radio service saw on average 1.4m visitors each day during February, and there were 3.5 million stream views. Iplayer visitors spent on average 64 minutes watching episodes of tv shows, and radio listeners heard over 163 minutes of audio.

The news comes after a record breaking January for iplayer which saw 20 million streams played.  The iPlayer can be accessed on a variety of platforms including mobile phones, games consoles and set-top boxes, but the website remains most popular for viewers.

Erik Huggers, responsible for the iPlayer, said the catch-up TV platform would soon boast partnerships with the likes of Facebook and Twitter, to make the iPlayer viewing experience “more social”.

“We are close to launching the third version of the iPlayer in beta which will have many more social functions embedded within it,” Mr Huggers said. “People will be able to bring their Facebook friends onto the iPlayer so they can share what they are listening to or watching with each other more easily.”

Most popular show was the live episode of EastEnders, which marked the show’s 26th anniversary. Over 1.13 million people streamed the show via the iPlayer service to find out who killed Archie. Many viewers wanting to rewatch the show to check for mistakes made over the live 30 minutes of content.
