iPlayer Coming To Europe.. For A Price

The much acclaimed iPlayer only has one real fault, you can only watch it in the UK. Until now that is. As part of an international rollout plans, the beeb are to launch iPlayer into the Western European market.

Watch iPlayer in Europe, if you have iPad

The only downside is that it will initially only be available as an iPad app, and the content will be a selection of BBC shows, but not the same as UK viewers get.

Jana Bennett, President of global iPlayer will tell the Banff World Television Festival today that the European iPlayer as “a different proposition” from the UK’s catch-up service, offering a curated mix of old and new BBC programmes. The freedom from catch-up means that we’ve got a lot more flexibility in terms of what we put on there and how we present it.”

Monthly subscription is expected to be around $10, and it is expected that iPlayer will eventually be available in many more countries, and across a lot more devices.
