iPhone 5 Launch Becomes iPhone 4S Disappointment
After the build up reached fever pitch and the day came, the expected iPhone 5 release ended in disappointment, as it turned into just an updated iPhone 4. The new iPhone is iPhone 4S and looks identical to the current model, but has improved camera/video specs and a new voice-control options.
The phone was announced at Apple’s corporate headquarters in Cupertino, California by new CEO Tim Cook who recently took over as CEO from Apple founder Steve Jobs. The phone may look the same, but the iPhone 4S is still a significant upgrade from the old phone.
The phone has a faster dual core A5 processor just like it’s big cousin the iPad 2, plus an improved eight megapixel camera and has full 1080p HD video. The outer case and the Retina screen stay, but there is an improvement in the battery which now gives talk time of 8 hours.
So cosmetic upgrades that put the new iPhone merely on a par with the latest Androids! But there is an interesting feature that received the most attention, and that is the new voice feature called Siri.
Billed as an ‘artificially intelligent’ assistant, Siri lets users talk in normally to your phone and get a response. An example would be to ask “what is the weather today”, or set alarms and dictating emails and messages.
The phone can work in a number of languages and rather than using pigeon English, you talk to the device as if it were another human.
