iPad 3 Tipped For 2012 Launch
The much-anticipated release of Apple’s proposed iPad 3 could occur as soon as early 2012, with reports from The Wall Street Journal suggesting that the updated device will focus on featuring what is being dubbed as a ’retina resolution’.
The move comes after computing giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) have withdrawn their interest in developing new tablet computers, but Apple will not be wanting to relax on their lead position in the market, especially with rivals such as Google Android and Toshiba looking to make a breakthrough. Apple, however, will want to use new developments as a way of retaining a majority fanbase first attained in April 2010 with the original iPad, the first of a wave of modern tablets released in the past year-and-a-half.
Although the reports of an iPad 3 remain unconfirmed by Apple, a new feature rumoured to be included is a high-resolution 9.7-inch screen, with the 2048×1536 display double the regular 1024×768 format, a move that had been tipped to occur with the launch of iPad 2 in March this year. Reports in June claimed that Samsung and LG had both been asked to develop the HD format for the next iPad.
The Apple is said to have ordered a bulk order of parts to produce a first batch of 1.5 million iPad 3′s in China ready for testing and distribution. The Wall Street Journal’s report on the matter said of the progress: “Suppliers will ramp up production and try to improve the yield rate for the new iPad in the fourth quarter before its official launch in early 2012.”
There was no mention of built in 3D capabilities a’la 3DS though. After having revolutionised the technological (and online viewing) market with what was essentially a cross between a smartphone and a laptop, what will the latest Apple iPad have in store?
