iPad To Get Half Price TV Episodes At $1 A Pop

It is being claimed that Apple may start sellling full tv episodes for the new iPad at just $1 per download. UK newspaper The Financial times has reported that Apple and major TV studios have negotiated the rock bottom price in time for the upcoming Apple iPad launch in April, and is being seen as a “test” to see whether cheaper stream costs equate to more sales.

To buy an episode now using iTunes costs $1.99 for standard-definition and $2.99 for high-definition. The Financial Times says that “some” television networks acceded to Apple’s push for lower-priced episodes, but it’s not clear which ones those are, and Apple isn’t commenting.

Media executives are under increasing pressure from corporation shareholders to get a good return on Internet based TV show sales, as sales of DVD’s continue to decline.

“If you move five times the volume [of sales] at half the price, it’s a good idea,” a digital media strategist from a US media corporation told the newspaper. “The argument for holding the line gets bad quickly.”

Seems to be a good move on the part of Apple in its quest to make iPad the number one tv streaming device. Although iPad has many critics in view of the no Flash problems, no camera and pricing levels. If it has the content at a cheap price mixed with Apple’s know how and cool image. We are all going to want one soon enough.
