Internet TV Viewing Figures Rise Again in September

After a lot of online surveys, another comes along revealing that a rather large 1 in 4 US households view internet TV, a rise from last years 20% figure. The figures for September were revealed by The Conference Board, an economic forecasting agency and TNS a media market research company.

Hulu was a big winner again, with a four times increase in viewers in just a year. Dmitry Shapiro, CEO of Veoh, puts the number of regular viewers at 24 million.

Watching television from a pc screen is a growing trend because it adds something that traditional tv doesnt. No longer does the viewer want to watch live TV or wait around for the show to begin. Viewers want to watch what they want and when they want. Internet TV allows viewers this luxury

Most popular shows online are news shows viewed by around 43% of online TV viewers. About 35 percent enjoy sitcoms, comedies and dramas, while 19 percent of online TV viewers indulge in reality shows and 18 percent follow sports. Other forms of online content include previews, user-generated content, additional content from favorite shows, soap operas and advertisements.

All that Hulu needs now to be the perfect business is to make a profit. Hulu already has the advantage over its bigger rival YouTube. Although YouTube has more viewers, its content is low quality and not of premium standard. When was the last time you rushed to watch a show on Youtube?

Hulu of course blows away Youtube when it comes to content that people want to watch. It has partnered with over 130 content providers that have streamed 1000 plus TV shows and full length movies onto the tv website.

Viewers now seem to be moving away from set time television, preferring to watch programs at a time of their choosing. And of course watching online makes the experience portable.

“Online viewing allows users to catch up on missed content and focus on their favorite programs,” said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board’s Consumer Research Center.

The popularity of internet tv and the subsequent surge of interest in Hulu is no coincidence and barring the networks greed killing off the online experience will grow at an ever quickening pace.
