Inbetweeners Coming To MTV
The current trend of American TV networks developing their own versions of British favorites seems set to continue, as MTV order a pilot for a US version of Channel 4 comedy The Inbetweeners.
Brad Copeland, who has previously worked on sitcoms such as Arrested Development and My Name Is Earl, has been chosen for the roles of writer/showrunner/executive producer, marking a return to TV after a stint in features.
The hunt for actors for lead roles in the pilot episode has already begun, led by joint casting directors Juel Bestrop and Seth Yanklewitz who served a similar role with the hit 2009 comedy movie The Hangover.
The Inbetweenershas been a key target for a long time for MTV’s EVP of scripted development David Janollari, who claimed the format rights for his network after intense bidding during the summer. He quoted “The Inbetweeners is one of the best comedies to come out of the U.K. in years. It’s unique and bold, its approach to contemporary teen coming-of-age stories is universal and simply hilarious, and it will resonate immensely with our core demographic.”
The creators of the original series (which always premiers on Channel 4′s sister channel E4), Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, will be on hand toexecutive produce the pilot alongside MTV’s team, which includes Copeland, Aaron Kaplan (through Kapital Entertainment), and former head of original programming for Comedy Central, Lauren Corrao.
Billed as a mix of Superbad and Freeks and Geeks, The Inbetweeners is a sitcom based around life in high school (college/6th form in the UK) featuring four teenage boys who belong to the “inbetweeners” social class (the source of the show’s title), described as being seen as not the most cool and popular but not uncool enough to be classed as ‘geeks’.
This is the second attempt to adaptThe Inbetweeners, after ABC attempted a US version written by Morris and Beesley. This time, the key duo will be taking a step back from writing, with Copeland taking on the role. Last week, Beesley also announced that the UK series’ 3rd season will be its last, with a movie and TV special set to wrap up the series as the characters leave school.
The Inbetweeners will be the latest in a long line of popular British TV series to see a new version made on the other side of the Atlantic, with the list of new, upcoming and potential series to take on a ‘USA’ label including The Real Hustle, X Factor, Outnumbered, and Top Gear.

First off, whoever wrote this article, have you seen the goddamn show? Also, an American version will be internationally hated and ridiculed like Skins USA.
I cannot believe there is going to be a USA version. It will fail immensely. I think they should just air the UK version on USA television.
The Inbetweeners is a fantastically hilarious show and trying to re-create it for American MTV viewers is pure idiocy.
Do not do it.
i just don’t get understand, where did this UK hit series turned US start? and why? Is the US so ignorant they cant watch a program from another country? Will they seriously not get the humour so much so that the whole thing needs to be re-written for them? Im from Australia – I get it!!! there should be a 4th UK series! US Skins is utter drivel and this will be too. If the US doesn’t understand the real deal-thats their loss. they should try travelling outside their own country sometime.
really how many british shows must they redue just to ride the pony and make a few bucks the US verisons are crap the office shameless skins, and they think putting some big names on these projects help it doesnt they all just fail because the americans take a good thing and just plug it with crap humour and limited gags and antics
the us version of the inbetweeners will just be american pie the sitcom
please stop it whats next the IT crowd, Dr Who?
I dont think that that will work in US version, but i do think that the US office i much better than UK version, Ricky Gervais is a W**ker!, not one bit funny, hope the lads get to make a 4th series!
the reason i believe there is going to be a US version of the show is because it is to vulgar for american television. i recently torrented the series about two days ago and watched every episode. i loved the show, and i think that an american interpretation would not go over well, but it would be better then dealing with all the “Bleeps” and cut out parts from the show. However i do not believe their should be a Series/Season four because the fact that Simon is gone and it ended on a good note, the writers knew when to call it quits. If they did continue it then it would be like the later episodes of That 70′s Show, where Topher Grace (Eric) was gone and replaced. Series four would only be a disappointment to fans from all over the world.
que paja estos yankis siempre con sus ws terrible fomes la unica wa con exito es the office, pero seguir copiando series british o indus o japonesas ni un brillo. saludos a la gente wna
What the heck… Why can’t they just air the UK version here in America? I’m American and I love this show. Just because they use slang that we don’t instantly know, it isn’t a big deal- it’s so easy to catch on!
[...] the first UK-made series to be given a US re-production, as proven by more recent attempts such as E4 comedy The Inbetweeners (remade for MTV), singing contest X Factor (Fox), and Ricky Gervais’ sitcom The [...]
I live in America, i watched Inbetweeners. If they remake the show i will be pissed. It is amazing the way it is, and it is played here in America. We have a channel called BBC America.
I loved the movie, i loved every episode, i wish they would go on for a fourth season. Why would the writers go and make a US version of it when they have so many fans wanting just 1 more season.
