Hulu showing UK shows but only in the US
The good news for UK viewers wanting to view Hulu is – Hulu has just attained the rights to to broadcast UK Television shows online.
The bad news – You can only watch them if your in the US. The catch up tv on demand giant has signed a deal for distributor DRG (Digital Rights Group) shows allowing it to broadcast TV series Rude Tube, Peep Show, Underbelly, Queer As Folk and Green Wing amongst others. DRG say that more of its shows will be showing on Hulu ‘in due course’ .
Hulu has long voiced its intentions to launch its website in the UK, Europe and internationally, but the shows will still only be watchable in the US, the only Country officially allowed to view Hulu streams.
It looks like DRG are Hulu’s first UK partner and it is making big noises about its new partner. Justin Judd of DRG said:- “We’re initially launching with content drawn from our own catalogue but we expect to increase the volume of UK programming on the service and we’re actively seeking additional high quality drama and comedy to roll out. We look forward to working with British producers and content owners to bring their programmes to this dynamic new marketplace”
There has been rumours of a Hulu UK launch and they have officailly announced their intention of rolling out abroad after the failure of project Kangaroo to determine what programming rights it could attain.
But if Hulu think that showing UK content is helping to pacify a frustrated international audience desperate for quality tv streaming then think again.
