We have the latest online video viewing figures for October, and although Youtube reigns supreme as usual. The big news is that Hulu has achieved record viewing numbers.

The figures have been released by ComScore Video Metrix covering online video content properties. Hulu achieved big numbers of 856 million videos watched online. They are still ranked in second place though, and quite a way behind Google’s 37.7%. Hulu has  3.1% of the market.

The average Hulu viewer watched 20.1 videos during the month, representing another record for the site. This amounts to about 2 hours of videos per viewer.
Other interesting facts from the comscore report include:-

- The top video ad networks in terms of their actual delivered reach were: BrightRoll Video Network with 16.5% penetration of online video viewers, Tremor Media Video Network with 15.5%, and BBE with 13.6%.

- 84.4% of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video.

- The average online video viewer watched 10.8 hours of video.

- 125.3 million viewers watched nearly 10.4 billion videos on YouTube.com (83.1 videos per viewer).

- 41.1 million viewers watched 313.5 million videos on MySpace.com (7.6 videos per viewer).

- The duration of the average online video was 3.9 minutes.

The big rise for October was credited to the new TV season being launched and also the fact that Hulu was streaming ABC shows via it’s deal with Disney.  Hulu now shows full-length content from three of the top four American studios.

Strangely enough, last week a report from Nielsen last week showed that Facebook was in third position among video sites, just behind YouTube and Hulu. According to them, Facebook had about 217.8 million streams in October. Should Hulu be getting worried?
