Hulu Prevents Online Piracy But Only While Free
The mighty Hulu has been accused of many things, including taking viewers away from traditional tv. Making a loss for its creators and basically not being a viable business model. However what seems to have been lost, is the fact that Hulu has had a great impact on reducing online piracy.

Although Hulu has seen spectacular growth whilst being a free to view service. It looks like it will soon become a pay to view model after being purchased by Comcast ( see Hulu living on borrowed time) . Although a pay to watch Hulu would probably do quite well, people seem to forget that one of the reasons Hulu was created as a free internet tv site was to prevent piracy.
The original idea behind Hulu was to give viewers a legal, tv on demand free streams alternative to downloading pirate content which appears to have worked. Although piracy is still around and probably always will be, Hulu proved that given a legal alternative people were happy to do the right thing.
If Hulu becomes a subscription based service or blocks content that was previously free, does it not follow that piracy will come back much stronger?
