Hulu Not Laughing As Comedy Central Shows Pulled

In a bad move for online tv viewers two of Hulu’s most popular shows from Comedy Central, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report are to be pulled from their lineup by Viacom. The shows have been available since 2008 and many say helped Hulu become the tv mecca it is, however Viacom have decided they dont want to share revenue anymore.

Daily show no longer on Hulu

Viacom have figured that they will make more cash by limiting the distribution of these shows on its own websites rather than letting Hulu stream them and have to share the spoils. The shows will still be available on Comedy Central however.

The decision is a major blow for Hulu, though the company is trying to play it down. But it does suggest yet another potential problem with Hulu’s business model. Other content providers may decide to either go it alone, or strike a deal with another online tv site – Youtube anyone? Considering Hulu have yet to make a profit and they are faltering in their international rollout, its not looking too good for the internet tv golden boy.
