Whilst the future may not be so certain, 2009 was an outstanding year for free tv website Hulu. In fact they are so happy, they even blogged about how great they are. And the figures certainly look impressive, confirming the fact that internet tv is here to stay.

The figures show that even compared to last year, the growth has been phenomenal:-

• Figures from comScore show that monthly users of Hulu grew to over 43 million, a 95% increase over this time last year.
• Hulu content doubled during 2009, with over 14,000 hours of content compared to 5,600 last year.
• Number of advertisers making use of Hulu has also more than doubled, growing from 166 to 408.
• Embedding the Hulu streams are rising with more than 6.4 million Hulu players embedded. A rise of 237%.

The list of content providers hit over 200 with Disney/ABC as the big new addition for the year. Plenty of other websites are embedding Hulu’s player on their own websites, creating a viral growth. The figures show thatHow many websites have embedded Hulu’s YouTube-like players? 207,000 sites, with a total of 6.4 million embedded clips.

Comedies were most popular as shown by the top shows this year with Saturday Night Live, Family Guy, The Office and The Simpsons included.

The figures show how ravenous the publics appetite is for watching online tv. Of course how long we can get all this great content for free may change during 2010, making next years figures hard to predict.
