Hulu Flying In February As Internet TV Viewing Figures Rise Again
Comscore have released online viewing data for February 2010, and Hulu have set new records for viewing. The catch-up tv website overtook big boys – Microsoft, Fox, and Yahoo for the number of videos viewed and moved into second position behind YouTube.
during the month of February. The average viewer for Hulu viewed around 2.4 hours of content. Hulu was also in seconnd place for the “average videos per viewer” at 22.3, this is still a long way behind YouTube who had 93.9 videos per viewer. YouTube of course blows away any competition (42.5% of all videos viewed) but Hulu came second with 912.5 million videos viewed, 3.2% of all online videos watched )up from 2.8% in January). Microsoft were third showing 623 million (2.2%), then Yahoo with 455 million (1.6%).
Although Youtube have the market wrapped up, Hulu’s share is worth so much more as Youtube is still seen by advertisers as having poor content. This has undermined Google’s ability to sell the site to major marketing firms. Hulu, on the other hand has large advertisers falling over themselves to advertise next to its premium content.
Make the most of Hulu though, as plans to charge viewers look to be coming in the near future, and with the growing audience they may be confident they can pull it off.
