Hulu Puts Block On Blackberry Playbook Streaming
The Blackberry Playbook tablet has not been that well received, but it had a saving grace. It could access Hulu streaming. But now Playbook owners have had it taken away. The tablet won’t be able to access the full web anymore well not if Hulu has anything to do with it.
Playbook users, who have had access to hulu over the last couple days were enjoying all the free streaming TV shows that Hulu’s website provided, have now found an error message: “We notice that you are trying to access Hulu from your BlackBerry browser,” the message continues. “Right now, this device is not supported.”
This has echos of the iPad, which had to wait for the Hulu Plus app, costing $7.99 monthly for access to streaming. Also the PS3 web browser, that once was capable of playing Hulu videos, but does not support the basic hulu site. The same also goes for Google TV. Hulu have also blocked Android phones and tablets that have flash enabled, including the Motorola Xoom.
Hulu’s decision to block them is to bolster Hulu Plus, a selection of content with support for mobile devices and set-top boxes. So it looks like Playbook owners will have to wait to pay the $7.99 a month to watch the ‘free’ content.
One thing is for sure. Hulu are aggressively going to block anything with a browser that is’nt a computer. Except a tablet is a mini computer isnt it? and drawing a line in the sand between a Playbook and a Macbook Air seems sort of silly. And in a perfect world, Hulu Plus would be worth paying for because the content is better, not because of some decision that certain platforms are a threat to their business model.
Even though reviews have not been great, RIM are expected to sell shedloads of the new Blackberry tablet. An estimated 50,000 more have sold than the Motorola Xoom and Galaxy Tab, with expected sales for Q1 of 500,000 tablets.

True. Hulu shoots itself in a foot with this decision. There are plenty of other websites with a free streaming out there. Also, I heard you can send yourself a hulu link to your gmail/yahoo/aol account and then it opens fine… ?
