The “Honey Boo Boo Child’s” show is back in the news yet again, and this time it’s for something more deadly than dressing up in a gorilla suit and playing around on the Georgia interstate. Lee Thompson, another star of TLC’s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” said in a recent interview with an Atlanta magazine that he is HIV-positive.
In the interview, which was conducted by the Atlanta based Fenuxe, Thompson–better known as Uncle Poodle on the show–claims that he was diagnosed with the life-threatening sexually transmitted disease in May. “I knew it had been my boyfriend who infected me,” Thompson told Fenuxe. “I later learned he had been HIV positive and was not taking medication and had not bothered to tell me about it.
The ex is now serving a five year sentence because Thompson had him charged with deception, claiming, “It was the right thing to do.” “I would have been cool with his HIV status if he had been honest,” Thompson added. “I don’t have an issue with the disease. I would have known how to protect myself.”
Thompson is a recurring cast member on the Honey Boo Boo show, and wants to use his newfound fame to help combat bullying and promote safe sex–while using his experience on the Boo Boo show to work his way into his own television show. “I want to have my own television show and highlight what it is like being gay in the south,” Thompson said. “I think I have a good story to tell.”
A spokesperson for TLC had no comment on Thompson’s revelation.
